Damn. That sucks. Maybe you need a vpn?

Nothing at my workplace is blocked, but then again it's my job to be on social media so, ya.

Its worse for me, they make me use IE9. This site basicly doesn't work on IE9. Its like, Yeah, you can have it, but it wont load half the time, and everything allways broken.

Hah. We can't upgrade our users past IE9 because half our internal sites won't work in "compatibility mode". But I give them FF and Chrome to play with.

IE9! Wow, you guys are living it up! We didn't even get off of IE6 until Microsoft killed it last(?) year. Now in IE7.

We block FB at work, but that's it. Our firewall has some "built in" site filtering that blocks out pron and weird stuff like guns and ammo sites, and alcohol and gambling related sites (which also blocks state lottery sites...??). Gawker hasn't made their lists yet, but the obscene headlines that get jammed into the autofeed might get them there someday soon.

LOL, was just about to ask if government and I saw your other comment. Personal phones not allowed, too?

FB was always blocked, but if you went in via a google, it used to work. Kotaku is blocked because games. It was always pretty restrictive, it just wasn't very smart, but it looks like we switched companies now.

Wow, what kind of company would do that to their employes?

Healthcare IT. It's run by post-menopausal nurses who don't know how to use a computer.

Not quite. Technically we're kind of a government entity, but we operate independently and are entirely self-funded. It's kind of weird. Personal phones are also banned, but that's not enforced at all.

You might be able to get there if you force an "https://" in front of facebook. That fooled our filter for a while, since it couldn't see what the content was to block...

Leave home computer on, remote desktop into home. Use home computer to browse web. It's not sophisticated, but it'll get basic web browsing done NP.

Can you use a portabe version of Opera? If you turn on Opera Turbo it gets around some things.

At my old job, the Internet filtering was weird.

On the work computers, pretty much nothing was blocked but everything was logged by IT.

On the wi-fi in the breakroom, there was filters on so much stuff.

If you used the work-provided computers in the break room, no filters again.

Weird. We used to have more filters on wifi than on our wired connection, but it looks like they're all lined up now.

They are trying to tell you something SidewaysOnDirt : Get to work! :P

Seriously though, some bad apples long ago probably prompted the increase of security. You can't blame the company. Also if you work in any of these places (hospital, government, insurance) "most likely" lots of things are blocked. But thats to be expected so people don't try to get records and information.
